Three Teams of Indian Women Entrepreneurs Win the 2015 Change The World Internships

1M1B selects 3 teams of women entrepreneurs to represent India in final round of Change the World Internship program at the United Nations in New York

New Delhi 19 September 2015: 1M1B (1 Million for 1 Billion) announced the 3 top  teams of their internship program at the Women Entrepreneurship (WE) summit  which was recently conducted at YMCA New Delhi. The event was graced by the esteemed guests and panelists like Capt. Indraani Singh, Senior Air India Pilot & Founder & Managing Trustee, Literacy India & Inhcraft, Ms Aditi Kapoor Director (Policy Advocacy and Partnerships), Alternative Futures, Ms Saloni Malhotra, Associate Vice President at Paytm & Board Member, DesiCrew and Nishtha Satyam senior official from the UN Women. These 3 teams from India will join their counterparts from the Caribbean and USA to showcase their enterprise on 16 October at the United Nations (UN) headquarters in New York City, on the eve of the United Nations International day for the eradication of poverty (IDEP).

1M1B is in aligned to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the UN and aims to empower urban youth and women to solve community challenges and gain economic independence for people in their community by creating jobs through a social enterprise.  With this internship program 1M 1B completed its first 9 month program and has taken a significant step towards its mission to skill 1 million youth and women to create jobs for 1 billion leading to peace and prosperity. 1M1B also launched this initiative in the Caribbean region and USA in partnership with the Global Leadership Coalition (GLC). The program saw participation from over 3000 urban youth (with 75% of them being women).

On this occasion Mr. Manav Subodh said “Our vision is a world where we come together to activate youth and women in urban areas to be leaders with an entrepreneurial mindset, solving problems and creating jobs at a community level”

The first team to represent India in the United nations is SANJEEVANI . Spear headed by Harsh and Shreya the project is a market linkage model to make the products made by low income group manufacturers  marketable as per market requirements and market the product in un-reached potential markets, thus linking the supply side and the demand side.

The second project , BASTA is the brainchild of 3 women entrepreneurs  Akshita, Malvika and Apoorva. The project focusses on  upcycling and refashioning of waste flex banners and cloth into eco-friendly, highly durable, waterproof and chic bags for sale in urban areas, with a special focus on creating a market in colleges and universities. The team has piloted this model on 5 women entrepreneurs and has made them employable.

The third team, WINDMILL is spearheaded by Vrinda.  The team plans to reach the artisans directly, increase the demand of their products through business and in turn increase their income by almost 20%. During the 1M1B Change the World internship program the team squared on two products in Kashmir – Papiermache clocks and candle stands keeping the upcoming festive season in India in mind.
